VP Accounting and Controller

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the VP Accounting / Controller has direct responsibility for leadership and strategic direction of the accounting function.

As the VP Accounting / Controller, you will proactively manage the financial reporting, operational accounting, and tax responsibilities for a fast-growing company.  You will serve as a key partner to Homebound leadership and manage relationships with external services providers and other stakeholders. In addition to overseeing and managing the current team, systems, and processes, you will develop and grow the accounting function as the company scales.

What You’ll Do:

• Fully and independently own the accounting function including all operational, project accounting, financial reporting, and tax responsibilities at both the operating and property company levels
• Lead the already built-out accounting team including mentoring, motivating, and providing clear vision and thought leadership on the growth trajectory of the accounting function, including additional hiring as necessary
• Evaluate and continually improve accounting procedures, processes, and systems to ensure standardized and efficient accounting operations, whilst also maintaining a robust control environment
• As a recognized expert in technical accounting, manage and maintain accounting policies, practices, and procedures to ensure US GAAP compliance
• Deliver accurate and timely results in accordance with US GAAP, to management, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders
• Lead and manage relationships with external service providers including auditors, tax advisors and fund administrators
• Build and grow cross-functional relationships to collaboratively work together to resolve month end issues and solve for process efficiencies
• Partner with Engineering, Data and Product teams to productize construction accounting workflows
• Manage external PropCo fund entities and reporting, as well as treasury function
• Own the Company’s early public market readiness efforts with respect to audit, systems, and accounting controls

Who You Are:

• 15+ years of relevant experience. Having attained Manager level at a Big 4 accounting audit firm AND public or later-stage private company experience required
• Prior experience as a controller or assistant controller at a public company a plus
• CPA certification required
• Strong background in technical accounting required
• Experience working to automate accounting through use of technology is required
• Start-up experience, real estate and / or construction industry experience, or experience working with fund accounting is preferred
• Experience developing and leading a high functioning remote accounting team
• Proven track record operating in a multifaceted environment while managing and prioritizing cross functional workflows.
