Who is DataStories International?
We are a team of data scientists and software developers, all united by our passion to bring data-driven decision-making within the reach of every business and every team.
Day after day we see the profound impact data insights have on team and process performance. We are also painfully aware of the obstacles a company can face on the journey to becoming data driven. It’s surprising how much data is gathered and stored in spreadsheets and systems, never revisited, and never used to improve processes, uncover opportunities, and make better decisions.
That’s why the DataStories team is on a mission to enable your company to reap the benefits of data science and advanced analytics and guide you toward a systematic way to use data insights for continuous improvement and innovation. In August 2021 we’ve been acquired by a management consultancy firm, Partners in Performance (PiP). PiP is helping build high-performance organizations and has a unique approach to unleashing organizations’ potential and increasing performance and ensuring sustainable change. We have a strong match in our values, a huge intersection in industry sectors, and a synergistic approach to implementing lasting data and analytics improvements and automation in operations.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for an experienced consultant in data science who can lead a team and deliver high-value data analytic services to our clients. If you have a good experience with the implementation of digital assistants in a manufacturing environment, you are the one we are looking for!
We address a continuum of opportunities for operations improvement using predictive and prescriptive analytics in industrial applications worldwide. Our clients are leading companies in metals and mining, food & beverage, consumer goods, and life sciences.
You will be joining a small but growing team consultancy team of DataStories, and will help us shape the future of the data science practice. DataStories is a part of Partners in Performance, a top-tier global management consulting firm. As a data scientist and one of the practice leads, you will be working with the world’s top management consultants on highly relevant performance improvement and energy transition projects.
Working at DataStories provides you a unique opportunity to experience speed, agility, accountability, and the power to change things within a startup culture of DataStories (think “a well-funded startup” with a flat structure, top experts, and 10 years of deep industry-focused data science experience), and disciplines, development processes, support and community of our mother company – a mature and fast-growing management consultancy firm with premium clients and fulfilling analytics problems.
You will be leveraging your advanced data analysis, engineering, and communication skills, focusing on helping our clients on a journey toward operations excellence with the help of AI-driven digital advisors. You will be leading the development and implementation of complex data analyses and models, deployed, and connected to the client’s environment that helps with real-time operations and delivers continuous and significant measurable impact.
In this role you will also act as an analytics translator, communicating complex data-related requirements between business and IT stakeholders, as well as Partners in Performance consultants.
Your key responsibilities and skill requirements
- Work on complex and varied data sets from some of the world’s largest industries to solve real-world problems end-to-end
- Lead the project teams on an analytical track ensuring timely deliveries and effective communication with stakeholders
- We will continue hiring, so mentoring and training other staff as a part of the job, including Python code reviews
- Facilitating the development of practice and the dissemination of an analytical culture in the company
- Add real-world impact to your expertise, as you are encouraged to write use cases, blogs, and articles and present at meetings and conferences should you wish
Must have skills & qualifications for the job
- 6+ years of experience
- Heavy assets industry experience (mining, energy, oil & gas, aerospace, chemical, etc)
- Excellent communication skills and good ability to switch between data science lingo and human language
- Strong ability to understand and summarize business needs and translate them into analytical tasks
- Excellent knowledge and proven experience in working with our tech stack (the more the better, Python is a must)
- Excellent knowledge of statistics and common statistical models and/or machine learning algorithms used in data science and the ability to use them appropriately
- Solid experience with the implementation of data-driven products into a production environment
- Proven experience in working with large datasets and relational databases (SQL)
- Solid management skills: you can lead a project, organize the tasks, manage the time of yourself and others, pay attention to details, be a real project leader, and a stellar example of a true top data scientist
Tech we often use
- Python (jupyter, numpy, pandas, scikit-learn, plotly, matplotlib, DataStories SDK)
- SQL (Postgresql, SQL Server)
- Bitbucket
Bonus points
The ideal candidate will also have some experience with the following:
- Databricks
- One of the main BI tools: Power BI, Tableau, Qlik
- One of open-source data-apps/BI tools: Dash, Streamlit, Shiny, Metabase etc.
- Hadoop, Spark, MapReduce and understanding of how they work
- Hands-on experience in development and implementation of simple architectural solutions (MLflow, MLApp, Kafka etc.)
Who are you?
- You have a university degree, and you are fluent in English
- You have at least 6 years of experience working as a Data Scientist in consulting and/or industry (management consultancy firms with DS specialization are preferred)
- You have good time management skills with high working standards and ethics
- You have persistence and patience; problems must be seen through, and technical limitations accepted
- You have excellent analytical & problem-solving skills
- You have the technical skills to make it all come together with accuracy and strong attention to detail
- You can summarize and filter information, both when searching online and when meeting with clients.
- You can communicate technical requirements/problems/limitations in clear and plain language and be customer service oriented.
- You have a proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities.
How will you grow?
You will be building deep domain expertise in developing and deploying advanced analytics solutions in mining, metals, energy, and food. You will be building new, bespoke advanced analytical solutions for clients powered by DataStories.
You will be working in a stellar team, and contribute to nurturing a culture of the highest quality, business value, and integrity. One of the reasons we got acquired by Partners in Performance was a unique fit of our values. In DataStories our values are developing high value for our clients with cutting-edge technology, having fun while we do that, and maintaining grit, and joy. The values of Partners in Performance are unleashing potential (for our clients and the team members), and lasting impact. You will have an opportunity to travel (should you wish) for engagements and for region exchanges – to gain experience working with our teams on any continent.
You will be offered a training program of management consulting courses, data science training, and the possibility to complete an executive program at INSEAD created jointly with Partners in Performance (after 1 year of working at DataStories).
