Job Description

While candidates in the listed locations are encouraged for this role, we are open to remote candidates in other locations.

At Databricks, our mission as designers is to make data science simpler and more accessible so that more people can help solve the world’s toughest problems. Product Designers at Databricks balance the creativity of a craftsperson with the analytical curiosity of a data scientist. We believe in the traditional and timeless value of great graphic design – while at the same time, we have a restless desire to get to the truth and make the best decisions possible using data. We design simple and collaborative products that have the power to delight a discriminating and highly technical audience.

The impact you will have:

  • Use thoughtful and well-researched design to create a simple and intuitive experience for our audience of Administrators – those responsible for setting up and maintaining the Databricks experience for their entire organization.
  • You will contribute to the design vision for Databricks Administration – a broad set of product touchpoints that covers infrastructure, administration and security.
  • Deeply understand the admin persona at Databricks and build intuitive interfaces that support their customer journeys
  • Lead complex information architecture projects that align stakeholder vision and produce simple and intuitive customer journeys
  • You will lead system-wide and company-wide product design initiatives that can be measured and drive business results
  • Gain an understanding of Databricks business objectives, users, market opportunities, and competition. Become well-versed on the Databricks product and its personas (Data scientists, data engineers, and administrators)
  • You will deliver designs for Databricks’ product and contribute to the overall direction of the product
  • You will lead system-wide and company-wide product design projects that can be measured and drive business results
  • You will work with Engineering & Product Management leadership, C-staff and other key leadership to lead important projects through from ideation to completion
  • Actively seek & provide design feedback and collaboratively improve the design process

What we look for:

  • A system thinker who has the vision to design the big picture, and the tactical ability to break it down so that engineering can succeed in building it incrementally
  • Experience with the use of information architecture and journey mapping to visually communicate the customer experience
  • Moderate design thinking workshops and related methods to align stakeholders on how to design the customer experience
  • Can accomplish beautiful visual and interaction work that’s rooted in a data-driven, and well researched UX process
  • Minimum 6 years of product design work experience, ideally with prior experience working in the data space
  • Proven ability to lead large and complex design projects and balance the needs of diverse stakeholders
  • A technically-oriented product designer with strong tradecraft, who is at ease drawing from a vast toolkit
  • Storyteller who delivers insights about people and behavior – both verbally and visually, from qualitative and quantitative user research.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally with specialization in HCI, Interaction Design, graphic design, computer science, or related disciplines
  • A portfolio showcasing the end-to-end design process, from inception to production
  • Experience with the following is a nice-to-have: Data engineering, data science, administrative systems, systems thinking, cloud infrastructure, security, data governance, localization/translation

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) Plan
  • Equity awards
  • Flexible time off
  • Paid parental leave
  • Family Planning
  • Gym reimbursement
  • Annual personal development fund
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
